About Dustin Newsome
With a background in Biochemistry from Arizona State University, Dustin Newsome’s methodical and outside-of-the-box thinking, coupled with his knowledge and passion for spirits, have led him to excel working in some Los Angeles’ most renowned cocktail bars. Upon arrival in Los Angeles, Newsome worked as part of the opening team for the exclusive Soho House West Hollywood, before moving on to work with one of Los Angeles’ most acclaimed hospitality groups, 213 Hospitality – helmed by Cedd Moses. For five years, Newsome lead the cocktail program at 213 Hospitality’s Downtown LA whiskey bar, Seven Grand, developing new cocktails and menu concepts, and facilitating Whiskey education for private tasting groups, Seven Grand’s Whiskey Society, and staff. In 2015, Newsome’s expertise and creativity led him to Clifton’s Cafeteria, where he became the Beverage Director, managing the 40-person staff of the newly renovated 82-year-old Downtown Los Angeles icon. At Clifton’s Newsome directed the cocktail program of three bars, including the development of new cocktail menus and menu formats for each establishment. Most recently, in September of 2016, Newsome returned to work for 213 Hospitality as a member of the opening team for their newest concept, Bar Clacson/The Slipper Clutch, in collaboration with Eric Alperin (The Varnish, Los Angeles; Half Step, Austin) and Richard Boccato (Dutch Kills, Fresh Kills, New York City. As Bar Clacson/The Slipper Clutch’s general manager Newsome leads a technique driven bar program in coordination with the owners, conceptualizing cocktails for a second concept slated to open within the bar this May.
