Beverage Director, Sommelier
About Katie Putterlik
Beverage Director Katie Putterlik curates a diverse selection at Otoño, complementing the Highland Park restaurant’s progressive Spanish cuisine. As a college student, she found work as a server and then made her way to Madeleine’s Restaurant & Wine Bistro in Pasadena, CA, in 2005. Impressed by her growing interest in wine, Madeleine’s wine buyer invited Putterlik to join tastings, grooming her to become a buyer. After four years soaking up knowledge, she took her talents to Noir Food & Wine as wine director and bar manager, at which she met scores of California wine producers and helped manage a 1,000-bottle cellar while meeting standards to thrice earn Wine Spectator’s “Award of Excellence.” Simultaneously, she began handling events with the owner’s Claud & Co. Catering, including Pinot Fest and Rosé Soirée. In 2014 she helped launch Eatery, a neighborhood-centric concept with new menus monthly. Through Eatery, Putterlik cultivated a sense of exploration by highlighting underrepresented wine regions alongside equally adventurous cuisine. She then helped the group open Bacchus’s Kitchen in 2015 and rebrand Eatery into tap & kitchen in 2017, before leaving to work as a sales rep for Cru Wines. Putterlik developed a friendship with Teresa Montaño when Claud & Co. collaborated on events with Montaño’s Ración restaurant, and a friendly chat over coffee in early 2018 turned into the opportunity to lead Otoño’s wine program.
