About Cara Abrams-Simonton
As a kid I would get to drink a blueberry Kefir drink as a treat when grocery shopping with my parents at one of the many local natural food stores in Eugene Oregon. I also grew up eating nutritional yeast on my popcorn. Although my culinary roots are definitely grounded in local, seasonal and whole foods, I also love to explore different ethnic cuisines which require ingredients from faraway lands. After living in Jerusalem for 2 years I love to cook with za'atar, tahina, sumac and of course to make my own hummus. In addition to my hippie and Middle Eastern preferences, I also love to prepare traditional Ashkenazi dishes with a modern, healthy spin. A few years ago I made gefilte fish with fresh salmon and cod, served with a beet horseradish sauce- yum!
