About Bonita Woods
Chef Bonita Woods spent much of her childhood on her grandparents’ farm, where she developed her passion for using only the freshest & health supporting ingredients. She went on to get degrees in the sciences, culinary arts and nutrition. For the last 30 years Bonita has combined her culinary skills and fervor for freshness while working at some of the top restaurants in Washington, DC and as a personal chef for the luminaries of New York City. As her interest and knowledge of the relationship between healthful eating and physical well being grew, Chef Woods decided to branch out. In 1996, she founded Diet By Design, a culinary-education consulting firm specializing in making fine cuisine healthful, manageable, affordable and accessible. In 2005 Bonita was the chef who converted the internationally renowned Sidwell Friends School's food service from traditional cafeteria fare to fresh and natural cuisine with educational programs and community involvement. In 2007 Bonita worked the same magic with Chesterbrook Residences Assisted Living Community, creating a multiple award winning dining department, specifically designed for senior citizens. Most recently Chef Woods worked her magic at University of Maryland's dining services, where she created fresh and healthful fine dining menus for the students. Chef Woods also created and oversaw a healthful culinary education curriculum. Bonita is currently developing programs to promote nutritional education and battle the childhood obesity epidemic through her (501c3) nonprofit venture Bonita Woods Wellness Institute. With help and luck, we hope to get our "Lifelong, Healthy & Strong", "Muffintop Project" and "Perspectives in Health" programs to as many schools in the US as possible.
