About Alex Gammelgard
Food is a labor of love, and there is nothing I love more than cooking and serving an amazing meal to a group of my friends. Dinner parties are a regular event at my house, whether it be an empanadas buffet, a sashimi tasting menu, a dessert party, or a clambake. My husband, who always serves as my sous-chef/facilities person, hates that I blow through our monthly food budget in my efforts to host a meal that tops the last, but I think he loves the food. I love the community of food and wine, and the conversations that unfold when friends are enjoying a good meal. And I especially enjoy bringing the details that make a dinner party memorable to life. I love to plan menus, and I try to think holistically about a meal--what music goes along with the food, what wine or beer or cocktails, what flowers and decorations . . . in my opinion, it's about the food, but so much more goes into making an event memorable. For example, food and wine was a huge part of my wedding in 2011, and I personally picked a full 6-course wine pairing tasting menu, and a dessert bar with bellinis and homemade limoncello--it was very well received (as you might imagine.) What do I like to cook? I'll try anything, but my passion for cooking has been heavily influenced by the access to fresh food we have in SF, as well as my travels through Europe and South America. I love warm, roasty flavors, fresh vegetables and herbs, and everything paired with wine and good music!
