About dorothy hernandez

Little did I know but all those years of rolling lumpia and filling empanadas for my mom would pay off years later (I thought she was just being mean). I'm a Chicago native living in Detroit. Before I founded Sarap, a Filipino pop-up in Detroit with my partner/boyfriend, I worked at several newspapers and magazines before taking the plunge. I still work as a writer but doing pop-ups has helped me pursue my passion for cooking and food. Pop-ups are great for not only the low-risk factor in sharing good Filipino food but also the communal aspect. I hope to bring more Filipino food to the Detroit area, where there are no Filipino restaurants. When I'm not cooking Filipino food, I love trying new restaurants (it's a great time to be in Detroit if you're a foodie) and enjoying old favorites.
