Matt Brimer at Alta

Bio

Matt Brimer is the chef for Alta. As a Southern California native, he had intentions to attend culinary school. However, he quickly surmised culinary school would be financially unrealistic at the time and instead, decided to take a job as a dishwasher in LA, and learn hands-on from the ground-up. After working at many famous kitchens around the country, he gained popularity at Maverick in SF’s Mission district, where he received a favorable review from Bauer.

"This comes with cracked wheat porridge and shaved baby turnips. It's complete comfort food! The smoked pork trotter is a solid runner-up."

"This is a great dish. The unctuous meat and poached egg are paired with fresh vegetables and a mustard vinaigrette—a great balance of hearty, light and refreshing."

"When they ask how you want it cooked, they just say bloody or no blood, which I love. The burger is constructed so well and is so perfectly symmetrical that you get some of everything in every single bite. I love those guys!"
