Karen Hatfield at Odys and Penelope

Bio

Karen Hatfield is the chef and co-owner of The Sycamore Kitchen and Odys and Penelope. Her pastry career began not far from home at the Los Angeles Culinary Institute, where she perfected her ability to take classic combinations and translate them in unexpected ways. Upon graduation, she honed her pastry skills under the guidance of SHERRY YARD at Spago, which is also were she met her husband. After a few years, the couple moved to New York and quickly immersed themselves in the New York restaurant scene.

Southern fried chicken salad
"We love our salads in Los Angeles, and this California micro chain is the best when you're on the go and need a quick fix. I always make sure to order the Southern fried chicken with the Dill dressing. It's not available at all locations, so call ahead to check."
Spaghetti Bolognese
"This is such a classic dish. Here, it's done to perfection and with elegance."

"We've been enjoying this classic Austrian dessert made with shredded, egg-soaked pancakes since Spago Beverly Hills opened. It's unusual for LA and it never loses its appeal."

Morning bun
"Made with cinnamon and fresh orange rind, this buttery pastry is totally craveable. It's good enough to risk double-parking on Third Street while you run in and get one."
