"This is the best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. Everything here is good, but this sandwich, packed with genoa salami, mortadella, coppacola, ham, prosciutto, provolone, and spicy mixed pickles is perfect every time. For under $9, you couldn’t ask for more. This place is always busy no matter the hour, but this sandwich is so popular that they put up baskets of them throughout the store for the taking. I never grab a number anymore—just walk in, grab my Godmother and I'm out the door."
"Bay Cities has the best sandwich bread in LA. It's blistering and crackly on the outside yet perfectly soft on the inside. Use it to sop up the juices of the cured meats, veggies, and vinaigrette. Make sure to get the spicy pepper mix!"
"When I'm headed out to the beach, I stop at this Italian grocery store and order the Godmother with everything and extra spicy relish. This place is always busy, so fax or email your order in advance and avoid the wait. Sodas, chips and chocolates can be added to the picnic."
"It's just killer. It has perfect bread, all kinds of Italian cold cuts, mustard, mayo, something acidic and a spicy sauce. It's one of those sandwiches you can't miss if you live in LA."
"I had my first sandwich with Raphael Lunetta eight years ago. He’s one of the best chefs in Los Angeles and an awesome surfer. It’s a super nostalgic trip for me when I have a Godmother sandwich."
"I always order The Godmother, spicy with the works. It is so darn good. Don't plan on sharing this sandwich. If you let anyone have a bite you will never get it back."
"This sandwich is an institution in itself. I grew up eating it and it still brings back memories of high school. All those different cold cuts, that perfect bread and the spicy pickled peppers? Bliss."
