"If I ever wondered why the women in the kitchen got pissed when 7 year old me snuck these little treasures from the baking rack as soon as they came out of the oven, I sure as hell don’t wonder now. These ackee patties are a bitch to make. Regardless, my heart is full, my mind reels in nostalgia and my nose stings with the heat of raw jerk sauce. I’m happy to have been raised in a country so rich in food history and even happier to have a chance to share what little I know of it with you guys tomorrow. Thanks mom and @welch.steve for toting me to the edges of that tiny island. I love you more than I can say and I’m one lucky brat to have you as parents."
