About June Rodil

June Rodil is the beverage director of McGuire Moorman Hospitality, overseeing the wine, beer and spirits programs at eight of Austin’s most popular restaurants: June’s All Day, Jeffrey’s, Josephine House, Clark’s, Elizabeth Street Café, Perla’s, Lamberts Barbecue and the most recent opening, Pool Burger. Born in the Philippines and raised in Dallas, Texas, June is a Master Sommelier — only the seventh in Texas and the 23rd woman in the United States — after passing The Court of Master Sommelier’s rigorous test in 2015. June first came to Austin in 1998 to attend University of Texas and originally aimed for a career in law before turning her sights on food and drink. Her first restaurant gig was at Austin’s Driskill Grill, where she started as a server and quickly rose to sommelier after realizing her passion for wine. She then honed her craft at some of Austin’s most popular restaurants, including Uchi, Uchiko and qui before joining the McGuire Moorman Hospitality team in May of 2014. Outside of her work at MMH, June is an active board member of GuildSomm, TEXSOM, the Advisory Counsel for Atlanta Food & Wine and has been a speaker on panels for SXSW and Pebble Beach Food & Wine. As beverage director of McGuire Moorman Hospitality, June manages the diverse wine, beer and spirits programs at the group’s eight restaurants: everything from sourcing new Burgundies to pair with Jeffrey’s expertly-grilled steaks to selecting rosés and sparkling wines meant to be enjoyed on Perla’s shady outdoor patio. In July 2016, June and McGuire Moorman Hospitality opened June’s, a neighborhood café on South Congress Avenue, which was named to Food & Wine Magazine’s “Best New Restaurants” list in May 2017. June uses her namesake restaurant as a playground for serving her favorite hard-to-find wines with an emphasis on Champagne and sparkling wines from around the world. The reserve list changes monthly and is showcased in a hand-drawn Wine Zine with rotating themes to help make wine more educational, less intimidating and fun. In October 2017, June and McGuire Moorman Hospitality introduced their first private label wine called June’s Brut Rosé, which they created in collaboration with Austrian winemaker Markus Huber. Available by the bottle and glass at all eight restaurants, the sparkling rosé is the ideal wine for Austin’s year-round patio weather.

Behind the Scenes

30 hours in Athens before our
"30 hours in Athens before our flight home and we went HARD [also went hard on the stories about it if you’re interested. Athens is filled with surprises around every corner, both modern and hip as well as awe-inspiring history].. ◾️ Parthenon & Erectheion at The Acropolis [fun fact, the columns of the ladies’ bodies in the Erectheion are called Caryatids]. Seriously, I don’t dig high volume tourists sites much but this was very special and worth the wait. Hopefully the e-tickets will happen soon. . ◾️ Also found some amazing eats. Top of Hotel Grand Bretagne for a stellar view and bottle of Cattier Clos du Moulin. And perhaps the most modern, fun, surprising and delicious dinner at the Funky Gourmet: 2 Michelin star experience in a hard to find pedestrian street. Whimsical and rad and totally impressed with the multi-lingual staff. And The Clumsies bar was LEGIT —had to go there twice cause it was so good.. ◾️ Finally cannot stress how lovely, lively, fun, and nice the people of Greece are. The hospitality alone will bring us back. #athens #travel #michelin #cattier #parthenon #acropolis #greece #hospitality #wine #winesofgreece #wogvisit2018"

Santorini— WOW. Mr. Paris
"Santorini— WOW. Mr. Paris Sigalas of @domainesigalas poetically explaining all the different facets and options of Kouloura in his vineyards, tasting old Assyrtiko (can I get a TDN holla!?!?), and ending with a great dinner in Oía.. ▪️ Educational tasting of bottle formats and closures at @estate_argyros with a Santorini Vin Santo line up including a mag of 1989.. ▪️ And ending our appointments with the PH professor and sulfite savior himself, @paraskevopoulosy of @gaiawines captaining a ship of us surly somms —some of whom dove 18m under sea (er, no, not this gal) to retrieve bottles of 2014 and 2010 vintages that had been gracefully aging under water. Holy moly.. ▪️ ...and, finally, meeting up with Mr. Rodil (whom is sans phone of any kind and figured out where to find us cause he’s analog that way) so we could proceed with phase 2 of our Greek Odyssey—otherwise known as: Vacation.. ▪️ #winesofgreece #winesofsantorini #sigalas #argyros #gaia #wine #wogvisit2018 #mrandmrsrodil"

Some amazing photos by
"Some amazing photos by @hilarymurphyphotography of our time in Austria with our winemaker #MarkusHuber and our friends. We really did have as much fun as it seems. Thanks for showing such honesty in the shots, Hilary! So amazing. Stay tuned for #junesrosé 2.0! - #austrianwine #mmhbevclass . . . PS I did some pruning for our Pinot Noir, and, while I did it pretty accurately, I probably would have been on that hill for about a week if I had to do it by myself. I’d make for a shit viticulturalist"
