Welcome back to The Required, our expert-powered version of a "best of" list, assembled by tallying up the all-time most recommended places on ChefsFeed. Read on to plan your next trip—or just to be sure you've checked all the boxes on your home turf.

Tastebud

Tastebud delivers rustic wood-fired offerings in the Multnomah Village neighborhood. Pizza is the name of the game at Tastebud and our experts report that the Leek Pie with Bacon, Garlic, Mozzarella and Fontina is a thing of beauty. There are many luscious seasonal salads and vegetable sides, and a succinct wine list featuring the best of what Oregon and Italy’s got on offer. Word on the street says the breakfast pizzas make Tastebud a worthy brunch and all day hang spot.

Nong's Khao Man Gai

Nong's keeps people coming back time and again for its namesake dish of Mary’s Organic Chicken served with rice, cucumber, cilantro, a side of broth, and a magical sauce of fermented soy, ginger, and Thai aromatics. Our experts say to go ahead and add the extra fried chicken skin or chicken liver to elevate this dish from simple to a lil’ decadent. Not that you should take our word over our expert community, but the last time we were filming in Portland, we ate here every day. Seriously.

Apizza Scholls

Apizza Scholls comes highly recommended by our experts for its consistent ability to turn out perfectly charred Neapolitan style pies crowned with gorgeous caramelized bubbles on the cheese that all pizza daydreams are made of. In fact, Apizza Scholls is the stuff of local legend–despite having opened in 2005, people are happy to wait outside for a spot to this day. Reservations are available however, in case kicking it in chilly Pacific Northwest weather isn’t your idea of a good time. Simple, unpretentious and delicious: there’s a reason Apizza Scholls consistently makes “Best Of Portland” lists each year.
