There are a lot of "musts" in this world.

And yes, we'll admit it, this list is absolutely littered with them, but we can promise you this: they weren't appointed by a lone critic, or by write-in votes from well-meaning foodies. Instead, The Required is comprised of the stand-out restaurants that have garnered the all-time most recommendations from chefs, bartenders, sommeliers, and the like. There's no black box of arbitrary editorial committees or user surveys with obtuse criteria fueling this list: just plain, crave-able truth.
Read on to plan your next trip—or just be sure you've checked all the best boxes on your home turf.

Pizzeria Mozza

Pizzeria Mozza has the most overall recommended dishes among our community of chefs and industry experts for places to eat in Los Angeles. Since opening, it’s been recognized as one of the best pizzerias in the country, most notably for its fresh California ingredients. The real belle of the ball though is award-winning Chef Nancy Silverton's now-famous dough, which bubbles and crisps with a toothsome chew that will have you daydreaming about it between visits. While the menu rotates depending on the best of the season, our experts say the deceptively simple Bianca with Fontina, Mozzarella, Sottocenere and Sage, and the Egg, Bacon, and Potato are the stuff wood-fired pizza dreams are made of. With a list of antipasti and salads that reads like a love letter to California produce, even the pickiest or restricted of eaters can find something to love here. The wine-list boasts a litany of Italian imports. Pizzeria Mozza is a terrific place to bring your family, go on a casually excellent first date, or roll solo and make new friends at the bar.

Belcampo Meat Co.

Belcampo Meat Co. started in downtown’s buzzing Grand Central Market and has since opened two other locations in LA. A true farm-to-table concept, Belcampo is a hybrid butcher shop and restaurant in one. It serves signature dishes with meaty favorites including juicy burgers, steak and fried chicken, and an assortment of cocktails. Go for a burger and a beer or splurge on the $150 steak and a magnum of Barolo!

Night + Market Song

Chef Yenbamroong brings funky Northern Thai cooking to Silverlake. The colorful restaurant offers a selection of Thai street food and family style dining along with an extensive and affordable natural wine list. Make sure you try the spicy Larb, Khao Soi, and Pad Kee Mao that Yenbamroong is known for, and the fried chicken sandwich. They do not take reservations, so be prepared to wait. Turnover for tables is usually pretty quick and once seated and served, you’ll be glad you stuck it out.
