Arami

Located in West Town, Arami makes the list of Chicago’s required Sushi spots. Our experts say that ordering Omakase (aka “trust that chef knows what’s best”) is the way to go. If ordering off the pre-existing menu, there’s plenty for sashimi and sushi roll lovers alike to choose from. Our experts say the Aburi Otoro- Bluefin Tuna Belly with Osetra Caviar and Tako Wasa- Charcoal Grilled Spanish Octopus with Ume Ponzu are standouts. With an exposed brick dining room and ceiling that is more skylight than anything else, the vibe at Arami is decidedly upscale casual. Seating is limited and this place has caught on, so we recommend making reservations.

Maude's Liquor Bar

With its rich Bordeaux leather banquets, dark hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and warm low lighting, Maude’s Liquor Bar has the feel of glamorous 1930’s Chicago. The cocktail program updates American and French classics without feeling pretentious, and the same can be said of the food. To drink, our experts recommend the Smoky Violet Smash or the Boulevardier with Old Overholdt and Carpano Antica. To eat, you can’t go wrong with the Foie Gras Paté with Tart Cherry Jam, White Wine and Herb Steamed Mussels, or cause a little bit of a scene with a Seafood Tower paired with a bottle of sparkling. We’re not gonna lie, just thinking about an evening at Maude’s makes us feel all swoony inside. This is the perfect place to woo a date or reignite the spark between you and your paramour or partner. Not so hot on romantic love? Take your bestie here and toast to the beauty and staying power of platonic friendship.

Longman & Eagle

A staple hangout spot in the popular Logan Square neighborhood, Longman & Eagle sticks to its local purveyors to deliver elevated bar fare. Dishes like Beef Fat Fries, Carolina Hot Crispy Pigs Ears, and Cheeseburger with Duck Skin Mayo and House Pickles showcase that farm-to-table, nose-to-tail ethos without breaking the bank. The philosophy of “Whiskey for drinking, not for the shelf” means they rotate three dozen selections from their 400+ varieties of Whiskey as $3 dollar shots daily.
