Fluff Bake Bar

The Story: Expert Rebecca Mason is known around Houston as "The Sugar Fairy." Her creative confections have become a "sweet" staple in Houston's food community. Her marriage of the French pastry techniques that she learned at Le Cord Bleu in Paris with the flavors of late 20th Century American bake sale classics she grew up with are always fun and often ingenious.

What to Eat: If you’ve got a kid with you, or are just looking to get in touch with your inner child, our Experts say the Unicorn Bait– a Sugar Cookie with Birthday Cake Crumble rolled in Sparkly Sugar should give you wicked flashbacks to the third grade. If you’re a lover of savory and sweet, the Couch Potato cookie with Pretzels, Potato Chips, Cornflakes, Marshmallows and Chocolate Chips is one to lay out in front of Saturday Morning Cartoons with. They also have cupcakes for days, like the Black Velvet: Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Icing and Tart Cherry Jam.

What to Drink: We’re going to venture a guess and say a giant glass of milk is what you’ll be after here, or perhaps a bottle of Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA because adulting is all about “balance.”

The Vibe: A sweet neighborhood bakery with happy, slightly hyper adults and kids lining up to get select their favorites.

When To Go: Open Tuesday through Sunday from morning until evening (hours vary so check their website), Fluff Bake Bar is a great ace to have up your sleeve if you’re trying out for aunt or uncle of the year (according to your nieces and nephews, not your uptight siblings), need to pick up a round of goodies for your crew, or simply on the way to treating yourself to some quality alone time with the streaming service of your choice.
