Cake Thai Kitchen

The Story: his peers, critics, and fans alike have named Expert/Chef Phuket “Cake” Thongsodchareondee one of the best Thai cooks in Miami. Located in a strip mall, Cake Thai Kitchen is tiny yet sparkling diamond in the rough, with a menu focused on Thai street classics like curries, fried rice, noodles and herbaceous salads. 

What to Eat: The Roasted Duck Salad with Thai Chili, Mint, Cilantro and Toasted Rice, the Crabmeat Pad Thai, and the Fried Tofu with Eggplant, Miso, Longbeans, and Basil all get high marks from our Experts. Cake Thai Kitchen also runs daily specials well worth checking out, including a Lunch Buffet that’s prepared in small batches so you can taste a little of everything. 

What to Drink: While they don’t serve alcohol they do have a nice selection of iced Thai teas to choose from.  

The Vibe: A fun, casual counter-service Thai joint serving up spicy street-style fare. 

When to Go: Open from noon to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday, and until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, we all know that spicy food and hot weather go together and you’re not likely to find a Thai place more true to its roots in all of Miami than Cake Thai Kitchen. 

Mi Rinconcito Mexicano

The Story: Nestled within Little Havana, Mi Rinconcito Mexicano is an old school, Mexican joint, famous for their huge portions and affordability in a colorful setting, our Experts say this is their go-to for authentic Mexican food in Miami.  

What to Eat: The Tacos al Pastor with Grilled Pineapple, Nachos con Chorizo, and Chile Poblano Relleno are all excellent choices. 

What to Drink: Margaritas con Sal, Cervezas de Mexico, and Aguas Frescas. 

The Vibe: A casual, family-friendly Mexican restaurant with piñatas, ceramics, and walls all painted in vivid candy colors. 

When to Go: Open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, this is the perfect place to stop in for filling, delicious, and inexpensive Mexican classics with your crew. 

Mandolin Aegean Bistro

The Story: Inspired by the tavernas of their native homes along the Aegean Coast, husband and wife team Ahmet Erkaya and Anastasia Koutsioukis opened Mandolin Aegean Bistro in 2009 in a converted 1940’s bungalow, that’s meant to feel like you are eating in the couples’ home. The two specialize in Greek and Turkish cuisine, and are recognized by our Experts and locals alike for serving the some of freshest and loveliest Mediterranean cuisine in Miami.

What to Eat: Our Experts say sharing the whole Mediterranean Sea Bass, grilled with Olive Oil, Lemon and Oregano with a friend never fails to leave them feeling happy, healthy, and well-fed afterwards. They also recommend the Chicken Kebab or Lamb Chops with Orzo Pilaf, and to start: the Hummus, Tomato, and Eggplant Sampler with Garden Vegetables.  

What to Drink: Aegean White Sangria with Rose Water and Athenian Vermouth, Prosecco with Mint and Watermelon, and of course, Cardamom laced Turkish Coffee with dessert. 

The Vibe: A warmly lit Grecian home with plenty of blue and white ceramic details, gorgeous wooden tables, and an inviting back patio. 

When to Go: Open from Noon to 11 p.m. daily Mandolin Aegean Bistro is a must while in Miami.
