"You have to get out in the suburbs to find authentic ethnic cuisine. At Cafe Medi, I’m usually tempted by the grilled lamb, but I always fall for the fattoosh. Their version is big, bright, and bold, with lettuce, radishes, mint, parsley, Persian cucumber, and thick, dark leaves of purslane tossed with lemon oil and garlic. Crispy sumac-spiced pita chips are crumbled across the top. Once in a while, I’ll stick around and savor the experience by ordering a hookah with mint-flavored tobacco."
