Robata grilled Japanese shishito peppers


"Mostly sweet and sometimes dangerously spicy, you get a whole bowl of these guys flaming hot from the grill and covered in bonito flakes that dance around as they shrivel from the heat emanating from the peppers. This dish is classic izakaya fare: simple and, when done right (as it is here), very satisfying. It's a great example of why I think that this transplant might be one of the best examples of an izakaya in Chicago."
