Chef Andrew Wiseheart reviews Oysters at
"Dear G Love, While you are in Austin, I recommend going to Shoal Creek Saloon for oysters and to Winebelly for the crispy pig ears. Both are great places to hang out and get drunk. Sincerely, Andrew Wiseheart *Editor's note: When asked where he'd send a band from this year's SXSW line-up."
Chef Andrew Wiseheart reviews Cajun gumbo at
"It’s great gumbo with duck, chicken and sausage. Shoal Creek is a down home little spot where you can sit out back by the creek or inside. It’s great with a cold Budweiser."
Chef John Bullington reviews Seafood po' boys at
"On nice afternoons, I will head to Shoal Creek Saloon for a pint and a po' boy on the patio overlooking the creek just after the lunch rush. I think bread makes a sandwich, and this is paramount with a po' boy. The bread at Shoal Creek Saloon has a perfect crust. Depending on my mood, I switch between the oyster and shrimp, which are hand-breaded and fried spot-on. It's a beautiful setting to read, think, and enjoy Austin, but it wouldn't be the same without a great sandwich and a cold one."
