About Maya Matalon

I grew up in a family with two very different distinct cooking cultures, but whose basis has always been around food. Both my grandmothers taught me that food was the way to bring people together and to provide love to those around you. My grandmother on my father's side taught me how to cook food in the Syrian Argentine tradition, including kibbeh, Mjadrah, lajmajin, empanadas and arollado. While my Grandmother on my mother's side taught me typical Ashkenazi cuisine such as matzah ball soup and gfilte fish, as well as Brazilian dishes where she was born. I then began to explore other cultures, which each represent important parts of my life such as Peruvian, Spanish, Mediterranean and Dominican cuisine.
