Ava Gene's (with a Side of Tusk)

Expert Joshua McFadden's restaurants join the list with several to choose from in Portland. His love for Italian food and ingredients is on full display at Ava Gene’s, which by the time you read this guide, will have re-opened, boasting a huge expansion to its kitchen, making it better than ever to visit. His collaboration with fellow chef Sam Smith at Tusk features a menu that goes big on Middle Eastern flavors. Check out the to-die-for Gnocco Fritto with Prosciutto, Ricotta, Citrus and Chile Flake at Ava Gene’s to start things off, and then bop over to Tusk for Pistachio Gooey Butter Cake for dessert. With a new sister restaurant Cicoria, coming soon, chef McFadden doesn't show signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Salt & Straw

Salt & Straw has become a national sensation, and it's no surprise that this small-batch ice cream favorite was founded in Portland after expert Tyler Malek doubled down on his love for his local neighborhood and experimenting with creative flavors. Try the Pots of Gold and Rainbows flavor–yes you heard that right–cereal grain sweet milk, marshmallows, vanilla, and magic. Or if you're feeling adventurous, try the Duck Fat Cream or Pear and Blue Cheese. With three locations around Portland, you’ll have plenty of chances to get a taste.

Olympia Provisions

Olympia Provisions has become a Portland favorite for its extensive charcuterie program. Supplanted in Portland's southeast industrial district, its original venue was built in a renovated cereal mill. It has since received national acclaim, with a popular online retail for gourmet meats, a cookbook, and a public house chain throughout Portland. Sample any number of its cured meats to go, or better yet, get a whole board, order a beverage, and relax.
