"Paradise Supermart is located in the industrial area of Kahului, Maui, very close to the airport. In addition to selling all kinds of ethnic specialty foods, they have a terrific, cafeteria-style array of Filipino foods. I make it a point to eat here either when I fly into or out of Maui. The chop steak comes with green beans and pork guisantes."
"The Hawaiian plate at Da Kitchen in Kahului, Maui goes neck and neck with the Hawaiian plate at Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina. You get the rockstar view at Aloha Mixed Plate though, but it’s all about the laulau at Da Kitchen. The laulau is pork and taro leaves steamed in ti leaves with traditional lomi-lomi salmon and poi, and you just can’t beat it."
"I love the shell-on aspect of this dish; it’s so crispy and crunchy. It's served over sprouts, lettuce, green onions, and fresh ginger, and it's tossed with a little fish sauce and sake. Sometimes I'll forget the salad and just eat six pieces of shrimp on its own. They are kind of like popcorn or potato chips—it's hard to stop once you start! It's difficult to find the restaurant, which is located under a bridge in Wailuku, but it's been consistently great for years. The waiters are also a hoot!"
